Description

The most famous lakes of the Salzkammergut near the beautiful town of Salzburg invite you for a swim, to go on a boat ride, or to cycle “just” along the lakeshore. Take it easy.

Living traditions will take you back in time to Empress Sissi’s times or even further into the Hallstatt period. Tempting cakes and pastries will lure you into stylish pastry shops to make sure you get to know the culinary side of this famous region of Austria.

The route
The daily stages are mostly easy to ride and you will also be able to do some smaller climbs and one longer ascent without any difficulties. You will be partly on bike paths and on side roads with little traffic. Only a few kilometres have to be cycled on roads with more traffic.

Itinerary
1st day: Arrival in Bad Goisern
The hotel staff will provide you with travel documents and rental bikes.
2nd day: Lake Traunsee Tour approx. 45 km
In the morning you take the train to Gmunden, a beautiful lake resort where you can walk. We recommend visiting castle Orth and the ceramic chimes in the tower of the town hall. On the bike path, you cycle along the river Traun to Ebensee. Then, continue further along the Traun and this way you soon reach Bad Ischl. The former imperial city attracts visitors with its Imperial Park, Imperial Villa, and Sissi’s teahouse. Now only a few kilometres remain until you will be back at your hotel.
3rd day: Lake Gosausee Tour approx. 25-40 km
The day will start with a transfer to Gosau. From there, you can ride your bike to the lake Vorderen Gosausee, from where you will have a marvellous view. On your way back cycle along the river Gosaubach to lake Hallstättersee and further along the river Traun back to Bad Goisern.
4th day: Lake Wolfgangsee Tour approx. 55 km
First, ride along the river Traun to Bad Ischl. The river Ischler Ache flows to Lake Wolfgangsee and further to St. Wolfgang. If time remains, you should not only visit the White Horse Inn and the church, but also go up the mountain Schafberg by taking the rack railway! A short ferry ride (not included in the tour price, about € 2,- per person) will take you to the other side of the lake and the bike path will take you via lake Nussensee and back to the hotel.
5th day: Lake Hallstätter See Tour approx. 35 km
Today, there is plenty of time for the World Heritage area around Lake Hallsätter See. Magnificent nature, the oldest saltmine in the world, the Dachstein Ice Caves, or a relaxing boat trip – there is something for everyone! During this tour, you always cycle on the lake shore and all the highlights are close to the route.
6th day: Lake Ausseersee and Lake Grundlsee Tour approx. 35-55 km
The train will take you to Bad Aussee. There, you have the opportunity to take a trip to the lakes Grundlsee and Toplitzsee. Lake Altausseer See is located on the way to the valley Rettenbachtal, which leads to Bad Ischl. Now you should definitely try the famous pastry Zaunerstollen (included in the tour price) at the Cafè Zauner. Because already our Emperor Franz Josef has enjoyed these delicious pastries! After cycling a few kilometres more, you will get back to Bad Goisern.
